cWAMR sets a new standard for memory-safe, scalable WebAssembly execution, reinforcing Verifoxx’s commitment to privacy-enhancing technologies.

6th March 2025, London, UK - Verifoxx, an innovator in privacy-enhancing technologies, has published its first research white paper on cWAMR (Capability-Aware WebAssembly Runtime), providing detailed insights into secure WebAssembly execution using CHERI-based architectures. Developed as part of the Digital Security by Design (DSbD) programme, cWAMR integrates CHERI (Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions) to advance secure workload isolation and efficient execution environments.

By embedding WebAssembly runtimes within CHERI compartments, cWAMR introduces double sandboxing, combining hardware-enforced memory protection with the flexibility of modular WebAssembly execution.

With growing concerns around cybersecurity, secure computing, and scalable execution models, cWAMR demonstrates:

  • Enhanced memory safety through CHERI’s fine-grained compartmentalization

  • Resilience against code reuse attacks, memory leaks, and speculative execution vulnerabilities

  • Stronger workload isolation and efficient execution across cloud, edge, and embedded systems

Bala Subramanyan, CTO at Verifoxx said, "As data security threats continue to evolve, enterprises need solutions that prioritize both privacy and performance. By integrating cWAMR into our core architecture, Verifoxx is not only solving today’s challenges but also laying the foundation for future-proof, privacy-enhancing technologies. This development positions Verifoxx as a universal layer in data processing and verification, ready to meet the demands of a data-driven world."

As WebAssembly adoption continues to grow, Verifoxx remains committed to bridging cutting-edge research with real-world applications. The integration of cWAMR within Verifoxx’s proof and enrichment engines demonstrates the company's forward-thinking approach to adopting emerging yet transformative technologies that enhance security, scalability.
